Piston type pressure gauge is an instrument that measures pressure by balancing the force of pressure applied to the piston with the gravity of the weight. It is a high-accuracy, high-reproducibility, and high-reliability standard pressure gauge measuring instrument based on Pascal's law and the principle of fluid static equilibrium.
Below 25 MPa, it uses transformer oil or a mixture of transformer oil and kerosene with a kinematic viscosity of 9-12 mm²/s and an acid value not greater than 0.05 mg KOH/g at 20℃. Above 25 MPa (including 25 MPa), it uses dioctyl phthalate (dioctyl phthalate or diisodecyl phthalate) with a kinematic viscosity of 20-25 mm²/s and an acid value not greater than 0.05 mg KOH/g at 20℃.
Piston type pressure gauge, also known as piston gauge or pressure balance, is a kind of gas pressure indicator mainly used as a pressure reference instrument in measurement rooms, laboratories, production or scientific experiment links. It can also be directly applied to high-reliability monitoring links to monitor the readings of other instruments in the area.
The piston and the piston cylinder are made of high-strength, high-hardness, and low-temperature coefficient of linear expansion alloy steel, tungsten carbide, and other materials, with a small coefficient of thermal expansion and deformation, ensuring a small periodic variation rate of the effective piston area and an extremely high sensitivity of the piston type pressure gauge.
The piston and the piston cylinder are finely ground, with minimal roundness error and clearance, and the working medium used is low-viscosity dioctyl phthalate, which greatly increases the effective rotation time of the piston and correspondingly reduces the descent speed of the piston.
For the needs of calibration work, the effective piston area is relatively small.
